The Bangladesh Agricultural University (BAU) unit of the Socialist Student Front (BASAD–Marxist) has announced its 26th Executive Committee, electing Zayed Hasan Walid, a postgraduate student of the Department of Farm Power and Machinery, as president and appointing Jaber Islam, a postgraduate student of the Department of Fisheries Management, as general secretary.
The 21-member committee was announced on Friday (10 July) following the organization's 16th conference held at the open stage of the Shilpacharya Zainul Abedin Auditorium.
Amrita Mondal and Shamima Shamim Lovely were elected vice presidents, Shatabdi Kar became assistant secretary, Sabuj Pal was named organizing secretary, and Ratul Hasan was elected office secretary.
The conference was inaugurated by Socialist Student Front Central President Comrade Salman Siddiqui. A rally later marched across the university campus from the Bijoy Ekattor monument.
The discussion session featured speeches by Central General Secretary Comrade Rafiquzzaman Farid, Central Education and Science Secretary Gautam Kar, and BASAD (Marxist) Mymensingh District Coordinator Comrade Shekhar Roy.
Speakers presented a 16-point demand that included ending the commercialization of education, increasing research funding, ensuring a democratic campus environment, and protecting students' rights. They also urged agricultural students to play a stronger role in issues related to farmers, agriculture, and national interests.
The conference was chaired by outgoing president Sanjoy Roy and moderated by outgoing general secretary Zayed Hasan Walid. The previous committee was dissolved before the announcement of the new leadership, and the event concluded with a cultural program.
