Result Leak Raises DPE Cybersecurity Questions

A technical security lapse has placed Bangladesh's Primary Scholarship Examination 2025 under scrutiny after an online result link became accessible before the scheduled publication, allowing portions of the results to spread rapidly across social media.

Although the Directorate of Primary Education (DPE) postponed the official release due to technical issues, screenshots and result sheets circulated widely on Facebook, prompting confusion among students and parents over the authenticity of the leaked information.

According to an official DPE letter, the officer responsible for uploading the results had been instructed not to make the portal accessible before the official announcement. However, the result link was inadvertently activated ahead of schedule, enabling users to access and share the data online.

An internal ICT investigation found that established security protocols were not fully followed during the creation and deployment of the result link. The department has initiated disciplinary proceedings against the responsible official.

Meanwhile, education officials stated that the leaked list should not be considered the official result, although they also stopped short of declaring the circulated information inaccurate. Students and guardians have been advised to verify their status only after the officially published results become available.

Cybersecurity observers say the incident highlights the need for stronger access control, secure URL management, staged publication workflows, and comprehensive security validation before deploying sensitive public data. The case also underscores the importance of audit trails and multi-layer verification within government digital services.

Earlier, an assistant teacher named Nizam Uddin Jewel published his school's student results on Facebook. In the post's caption, he wrote, "Alhamdulillah. The biggest achievement in the teaching profession! Five students from Borkanda Government Primary School have received scholarships for the first time."

Guardian Kamrun Nahar Keya also posted on Facebook, sharing a page of the results. She wrote, "Alhamdulillah. My nephew received a talent pool scholarship." However, a letter signed by the Director General of the Directorate, Shahina Ferdousi, instructed disciplinary action against Md. Mehatab Kayes, Assistant Maintenance Engineer of the Directorate of Primary Education, who was the officer responsible for uploading the results of 9 districts to the web.
