DU Professor Dr. Abdus Salam Receives National Environment Award 2025

Environmental research, air pollution studies and technological innovation honoured

Professor Dr. Abdus Salam, Pro-Vice Chancellor (Education) of the University of Dhaka, has received the National Environment Award 2025 in recognition of his outstanding contributions to environmental research and technological innovation, particularly in air pollution and environmental chemistry.

Professor Dr. Abdus Salam, Pro-Vice Chancellor (Education) and Professor of the Department of Chemistry at the University of Dhaka, has received the National Environment Award 2025 for his outstanding contributions to environmental research and technological innovation. Prime Minister Tarek Rahman presented the award at a ceremony held at the China Friendship Conference Center in Dhaka on Thursday. Adviser for Environment Abdul Awal Mintoo was also present.

The National Environment Award 2025 was presented to three individuals and three institutions under three categories: Environmental Conservation and Pollution Control, Environmental Education and Awareness, and Environmental Research and Technological Innovation. Dr. Abdus Salam received the award in the Environmental Research and Technological Innovation category.

Dr. Salam has conducted extensive research in environmental chemistry, air pollution, atmospheric particulate matter, heavy metal contamination, pollution source identification, environmental risk assessment, and technology-based pollution mitigation. His research has been published in numerous reputed national and international scientific journals and has significantly contributed to environmental policy formulation and scientific advancement. These long-standing contributions earned him the National Environment Award 2025.

In the individual category, Assistant Professor Md. Hasmat Ali of Alhaj Farhad Ali Memorial Degree College received the award for Environmental Conservation and Pollution Control, while Md. Monir Hossain was honoured for Environmental Education and Awareness.

Among institutions, Classical Handmade Products BD Limited received the award for Environmental Conservation and Pollution Control, the Institute of Forestry and Environmental Sciences of the University of Chittagong was recognised in Environmental Education and Awareness, and the Bangladesh Jute Research Institute received the award for Environmental Research and Technological Innovation.

The National Environment Award is the country's highest state recognition for individuals and institutions making exceptional contributions to environmental protection, research, technological innovation, and sustainable development.
