Gov't Reaffirms Commitment to Ensure Mandatory e-GP for All Public Procurement
The government has reaffirmed its commitment to managing all public procurement through the electronic Government Procurement (e-GP) system to ensure transparency. State Minister for Planning Jonaed Saki MP announced this at stakeholder consultation workshops organized by BPPA.
The government has reaffirmed its commitment to conducting all public procurement activities entirely through the electronic Government Procurement (e-GP) system to ensure efficiency, transparency, and timely execution. State Minister for Planning Zonayed Saki announced this today, Tuesday (July 7), while addressing two stakeholder consultation workshops titled "Enhancement of e-GP System, Implementation of Mandatory e-GP, and Capacity Building of Bangladesh Public Procurement Authority (BPPA)" as the chief guest.
Organized by the BPPA, the workshops were part of a continuous stakeholder consultation initiative aimed at strengthening the e-GP system and collecting feedback to enhance institutional capacity. The morning workshop was held at the NEC-2 conference room, while the afternoon session took place at the conference hall of the BPPA Bhaban, located on the Bangladesh Planning Commission premises in Sher-e-Bangla Nagar.
Senior officials from various ministries, divisions, and agencies, along with project directors, attended the morning session. The afternoon session focused on the technical enhancement of the e-GP platform, drawing representatives from public and private IT sectors, engineering universities, and leading ICT organizations. Both workshops were chaired by SM Moin Uddin Ahmed, Chief Executive Officer (Secretary) of BPPA, while Sirajun Noor Chowdhury, Secretary of the Implementation Monitoring and Evaluation Division (IMED), attended as the special guest.
In his address, State Minister Zonayed Sakistated, "Timely implementation of development projects is the government's highest priority. Since a major portion of development expenditure goes through public procurement, strengthening governance in this sector is vital. We aim to enforce mandatory e-GP across all public procurements. For this, the system will be made more efficient, user-friendly, and aligned with the requirements of all stakeholders."
BPPA Chief Executive Officer SM Moin Uddin Ahmed stated that to properly gauge field-level experiences, limitations, and challenges regarding e-GP implementation, BPPA will continue organizing stakeholder consultation meetings across the country, including regions outside Dhaka.
IMED Secretary Sirajun Noor Chowdhury noted that flaws in project formulation often hamper execution efficiency. Therefore, alongside a robust procurement framework, equal emphasis must be placed on sound project planning and preparation to ensure timely and high-quality outcomes.
During the sessions, BPPA Director Shah Yamin Ul Islam presented the keynote paper, while BPPA Senior System Analyst Md. Mosharraf Hossain unveiled the roadmap for the national e-GP system enhancement in the afternoon session.
