Fox Announces $22 Billion Acquisition of Roku in Landmark Streaming Deal
A major transformation is set to reshape the global entertainment and media landscape as Fox Corporation has announced its acquisition of Roku, one of the leading companies in the streaming device industry. The deal, valued at approximately $22 billion, is expected to create a new powerhouse in the U.S. television and streaming market.
According to a joint statement issued by the two companies, Fox will acquire Roku at a price of $160 per share, subject to the approval of regulatory authorities and the completion of customary legal procedures.
Industry observers believe that once finalized, the merger will create the third-largest television platform in the United States by audience reach.
In a statement, Lachlan Murdoch, Executive Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Fox Corporation, described the acquisition as a historic milestone for the company.
“This is a landmark moment for Fox. It represents the culmination of a strategic vision that we have pursued over the past decade. By combining America’s most popular streaming platform with our portfolio of live programming, we will create significant opportunities to accelerate long-term growth,” he said.
Despite the change in ownership, Roku will continue to operate as an open platform for partners while maintaining its distinct identity. The company currently serves more than 100 million households worldwide through The Roku Channel and its broader streaming ecosystem.
The acquisition is expected to strengthen Fox’s ability to distribute its live content to a substantially larger audience while expanding revenue opportunities from digital advertising and streaming subscription fees.
Commenting on the agreement, Anthony Wood, Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Roku, described the deal as an extraordinary opportunity.
“Joining forces with Fox will accelerate our mission and enable us to bring innovative technologies to consumers more quickly,” he said.
Fox stated that the transaction will be financed through a combination of cash and shares of the company’s common stock.
