Safe Food Science Summit: Research, Technology Drive Sustainable Nutrition Goals

The 8th National Scientific Conference, organized by the Bangladesh Society for Safe Food, was held in the capital Dhaka with the theme “Ensuring Safe Food for a Sustainable Future.” The conference, held on 9 May, Saturday, brought together experts, researchers, academics, and policymakers to discuss food safety, nutrition, and sustainable agricultural management in the country.

Speaking as the chief guest at the inaugural session, Sultan Salauddin Tuku said the current government is working tirelessly to ensure safe and nutritious food for the country’s 180 million people. He noted that research must be further strengthened to restore the rich heritage of Bangladesh’s agriculture and food systems, and that research-based knowledge and technology must be delivered to farmers at their doorsteps.

He further said that ensuring safe food requires coordinated efforts among the government, researchers, agricultural experts, and all relevant stakeholders. In this regard, he mentioned that the Bangladesh Society for Safe Food is playing a significant role in advancing research and raising public awareness.

The event, presided over by Professor Dr. Md. Khaled Hossain and moderated by Dr. Mohammad Sarwar Jahan, was attended by Md. Shahjaman Khan and Md. Anwarul Islam Sarkar as special guests. Mosiur Rahman was present as an honored guest.

Dr. Md. Monirul Islam presented the keynote paper in the inaugural session. In the closing session, the chief guest was Dr. Md. Abdus Salam. Representatives from WorldFish, Heifer International-Bangladesh, CABI International, and other organizations were also present at the event.

At the conference, the ‘Safe Food Award 2026’ was presented to entrepreneur Md. Sohel Rana from Sapahar upazila of Naogaon district.

The organizers said that a total of 15 research papers were presented across three scientific sessions at the conference. The sessions covered topics including health, food and nutrition; safe food production and processing; and food safety and microbiology. In addition, four more research papers, including one on the nutritional value of mushrooms, were presented in a special scientific session. Around 70 research posters were also exhibited at the conference.

WorldFish, Heifer International-Bangladesh, CABI International, and the Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition served as co-organizers of the conference. Inter Agro Bangladesh was the platinum sponsor, Nourish Group the gold sponsor, and Paragon Dairy supported the event as the silver sponsor.
