AI Advancement Assembly: 6th Young Scientist Congress Begins in Dhaka
A two-day 6th Young Scientist Congress has begun at the National Science and Technology Complex in Agargaon of the capital. At this event, young scientists of the country will present research, innovation, and prospects related to Artificial Intelligence (AI).
On Saturday, April 4, Fakir Mahbub Anam, Minister of Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology and Minister of Science and Technology, attended the उद्घation ceremony as the chief guest.
In his address, the minister said that the “Sixth Young Scientist Congress,” organized with the participation of young scientists, will further accelerate the country’s scientific progress. He noted that in today’s world, science and technology are not only drivers of economic development but also key foundations of national security, sustainable development, and human welfare.
He further stated that the government is working to build a knowledge-based and innovation-driven Bangladesh. To this end, emphasis is being placed on expanding STEM education, transforming research into market-ready solutions, increasing investment in modern technologies including Artificial Intelligence, and strengthening the startup ecosystem.
Addressing young scientists, the minister said, “You will lead the future. Through research, innovation, and creativity, you must play a significant role in the country’s development.” He also urged them to apply the knowledge and experience gained from higher education abroad for the benefit of the country.
Expressing optimism, the minister said that the government will continue to provide full support for the development of the science and technology sector.
As a special guest, Secretary of the Ministry of Science and Technology Md. Anwar Hossain said that the ministry has taken initiatives to establish a national AI institute by prioritizing Artificial Intelligence in the country. He emphasized the importance of integrated policies and research to ensure data security, management, and effective use of AI in agriculture, education, healthcare, and industry. He added that efforts are also underway to advance STEM education, as well as the nano, biotechnology, and semiconductor sectors. Through the “Innovation to Market” initiative, steps have been taken to connect innovations with the market and build a strong ecosystem. Plans are also in place to organize a National Innovation Fair soon.
University Grants Commission (UGC) Chairman Professor Dr. Mamun Ahmed, also speaking as a special guest, said, “We are now in the era of the Fourth Industrial Revolution, where Artificial Intelligence is transforming our lives and workplaces. The young scientists of Bangladesh are the main driving force behind this transformation.”
He further added, “We should use technology to solve real-world problems of the country—such as healthcare, agriculture, and innovation—while ensuring data security and ethics.”
The congress will feature various sessions, research presentations, panel discussions, and technology exhibitions. Representatives from different universities, research institutions, and technology-related organizations across the country are participating.
Organizers said that such initiatives play a significant role in increasing young scientists’ interest in research and fostering innovations of international standards.
The opening ceremony of the 6th Young Scientist Congress 2026 was chaired by Professor Dr. Z N Tahmida Begum (BAS), Vice President of the Bangladesh Academy of Sciences.
Welcome remarks were delivered by the Chairperson of the 6th Young Scientist Congress, Major General (Retd.) Professor Dr. A S M Matiur Rahman.
Professor Dr. Yarul Kabir, Secretary of the Bangladesh Academy of Sciences, delivered the opening remarks of the event.
Notably, the congress, themed “Young Scientists for Artificial Intelligence,” is being held on April 04–05, 2026, organized by the Bangladesh Academy of Sciences.
Teachers-researchers, young scientists, students, and experts from various universities and relevant sectors of the country were also present at the event.
