Campus Ceremony Cut Short: JUST VC Removed Mid-Seminar Amid Digital Quality Drive

Professor Dr. Md. Abdul Majid, Vice-Chancellor (VC) of Jashore University of Science and Technology (JUST), received his release order while attending a seminar with the Education Minister at his own university.

The order was issued in a notification released on Monday afternoon, 13 April. The seminar was held at the Professor Mohammad Sharif Hossain Gallery, organized by the university’s Institutional Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC). Education Minister Dr. A N M Ehsanul Hoque Milan attended the event as the chief guest, while the now-relieved VC Professor Dr. Abdul Majid was presiding over the seminar.

According to the notification, with the approval of the President and Chancellor, and in accordance with condition (e) of the notification No. 37.00.0000.076.11.001.21.102 dated 9 September 2024 issued by the Secondary and Higher Education Division of the ministry, Professor Dr. Md. Abdul Majid of the Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry, University of Dhaka, has been relieved from the post of Vice-Chancellor of Jashore University of Science and Technology and permitted to return to his original position.

Earlier, on 24 September 2024, Dr. Md. Abdul Majid had joined as the Vice-Chancellor of JUST while serving as a professor in the Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry at the University of Dhaka.

It is noted that he obtained his Bachelor’s degree in 1994, Master’s degree in 1995, and MPhil in 2003 from the Department of Pharmacy at the University of Dhaka. He later completed his PhD in 2007 from Tottori University in Japan. His academic career began in 2001 as a lecturer at Asia Pacific University. He subsequently joined the University of Dhaka as a lecturer in 2003, was promoted to Assistant Professor in 2007, Associate Professor in 2010, and Professor in 2013. He was born on 6 April 1973 in Rishkhali village, Daulatpur Union, Harinakunda Upazila of Jhenaidah district, Bangladesh.
