Prime Minister Tarique Rahman is set to officially inaugurate the experimental distribution of the 'Farmer Card' (Krishok Card) on the first day of the Bengali New Year 1433 (April 14). Following the launch, the cards will be distributed across nine blocks in nine selected upazilas across the eight divisions of the country.

The Prime Minister announced the plan on Monday (30 March) morning at the Shapla Hall of the Prime Minister's Office in Tejgaon during the inauguration of 'Sports Cards' and allowance distribution. "The 'Farmers Card' program will commence on April 14. Our government is consistently working to fulfill every promise made to improve the lives of our people, and the 'Sports Card' launched today is part of that same journey," he stated.

Under this digital initiative, farmers will enjoy 10 major benefits, including access to seeds, fertilizers, irrigation support, agricultural loans, and special grants during the Kharif-1 and Kharif-2 seasons. The government plans to distribute 1.65 million cards over the next four years. Landless, marginal, and small-scale farmers will receive an average subsidy of BDT 2,500 or agricultural input assistance under this scheme.

Registration and Benefits Farmers can apply for the card through Sub-Assistant Agriculture Officers at the union level or via the myGov portal online. Required documents include a National ID (NID), passport-size photographs, a mobile number, land ownership documents, and bank account details.

The Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE) under the Ministry of Agriculture will implement the program. Key features of the card include:

  • Direct financial grants for specific farmer categories during Kharif seasons.

  • Access to crop insurance and modern agricultural training.

  • Real-time weather updates and disease alerts through the Smart Farmer Card system.

The pilot phase will cover Tangail Sadar, Shibganj (Bogura), Panchagarh Sadar, Islampur (Jamalpur), Shailkupa (Jhenaidah), Nesarabad (Pirojpur), Juri (Moulvibazar), Cumilla Sadar, and Teknaf (Cox’s Bazar).
