On the occasion of the Great Independence Day, former employees of Grameenphone staged a protest program in front of GP House, located at the entrance of Bashundhara Residential Area, demanding their rightful dues. The peaceful sit-in was held on Thursday, March 26, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., with more than fifty participants joining the program.

Abu Shadat Md. Shoaib, convener of the Grameenphone 5% Outstanding Dues Unity Council, stated that they have long been pressing for the payment of the unresolved 5% late fee. Despite nearly 16 years having passed, this rightful payment has still not been made, leaving former employees deeply frustrated and angry.

He added that, tragically, due to this prolonged delay, many former employees have already died without receiving necessary medical treatment because of financial hardship. This is both heartbreaking and unacceptable. They do not want this situation to continue any longer.

Adeeba Zerin Chowdhury, Communication Secretary of the Grameenphone Employees Union (GPEU), said: “In this context, we strongly urge Grameenphone authorities to immediately pay the full amount of the 5% late fee and fulfill this humane and just demand. We believe that, inspired by the spirit of independence, collective efforts to establish justice will succeed.”
