The central unit of the Bangladesh Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal has issued a show-cause notice to Sheikh Tanvir Bari Hamim, Convener of Kabi Jasimuddin Hall Chhatra Dal under the Dhaka University branch, on allegations of violating organizational discipline.

The information was disclosed in a press release signed by the organization’s Office Secretary, Md. Jahangir Alam. According to the show-cause notice issued on the night of Friday, 27 February, Hamim has been asked to submit a written explanation within 24 hours as to why permanent organizational disciplinary action should not be taken against him for allegedly breaching discipline while holding a responsible position. He has also been instructed to appear at the organization’s central office in the presence of the President and General Secretary of the central committee.

Following receipt of the notice, at around 1:00am, Sheikh Tanvir Bari Hamim responded through a 2-minute and 56-second video message posted on his verified Facebook account. In the video, he stated that he could have provided a written response if requested, but questioned the decision to publish the show-cause notice directly on social media.

In his statement, he said, “I still do not know why I have been served a show-cause notice. How can I respond without knowing the reason?” He added that he had contacted the central Office Secretary by phone to seek clarification on the matter.

According to Hamim, on 26 February he organized an iftar gathering with students of Dhaka University. The event included a Quran recitation competition followed by iftar with the students. He later came to learn that the show-cause notice was issued in connection with that event.

He further stated, “If the students of Dhaka University and the leaders and activists of Chhatra Dal believe that I have committed any wrongdoing, then I accept that wrongdoing and seek forgiveness.”

The incident has sparked discussions within the organization as well as widespread reactions on social media. Observers are now watching whether he will submit a written explanation within the stipulated timeframe.

Meanwhile, under his post, Ghulam Kibria Sarkar, widely known as RJ Kibria, commented, “You did the right thing, brother.” In response to that comment, a user named Majid Zia wrote sarcastically, “Yesterday, Chhatra Dal President Rakib failed to attract the attention of Mr. Tarique Rahman by running in a new gesture, and out of that frustration you have been served the show-cause notice.”
