After completing her first day in office at the Secretariat, State Minister for Women and Children Affairs and Social Welfare Farzana Sharmin Putul shared an emotional message on Facebook.

She wrote, “Today was my first day at the ministry. Thirty-three years ago, my father sat in this very office and worked for the country. Today, I am sitting in the same office to serve the nation.”

In her post, she added, “There is not a single moment, day or night, when my father is not with me. Sitting in the office today, every time my eyes fell on my father’s name on the number six spot on the board beside me, I felt as though he was telling me, ‘I was waiting here for you.’”

Along with the status, she shared a photograph of herself standing beside a board listing ministers’ names. Farzana Sharmin Putul is the daughter of former BNP State Minister Fazlur Rahman Potol. She was elected as a Member of Parliament from Natore-1 in the 13th National Parliamentary Election and later appointed as a state minister.

Under the cabinet led by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, she is among seven state ministers who have inherited their fathers’ political legacy.

It is worth noting that Fazlur Rahman Potol served as State Minister for Communications in 1991 during the BNP government. In 1993, he became State Minister for Social Welfare, and in 2001, during the four-party alliance government, he served as State Minister for Youth and Sports. He was elected Member of Parliament four times from Natore-1 (Lalpur–Bagatipara) as a BNP candidate. Potol passed away on August 11, 2016, while serving as an adviser to the party chairperson.
