The Election Commission (EC) has urged citizens not to be misled by misinformation circulating on social media regarding the alleged postponement of the upcoming referendum and the 13th National Parliamentary Election.

The appeal was made in a press release signed by EC Public Relations Director Md Ruhul Amin Mallik on Sunday, February 8.

According to the statement, misleading claims have recently been spread on social media platforms suggesting that the forthcoming referendum and national parliamentary election have been deferred. In this regard, the Election Commission clarified unequivocally that the national parliamentary election and referendum will be held on the scheduled date—Thursday, February 12, 2026—in 299 parliamentary constituencies, excluding Sherpur-3.

In view of this, the Election Commission has requested the public not to pay heed to any form of misinformation or propaganda concerning the postponement of the upcoming election and referendum.
