Meta Seals Multi-Billion-Dollar Deal With Corning to Strengthen AI Data Centre Infrastructure

Meta Platforms, the parent company of Facebook, has signed a major agreement with glass manufacturer Corning to bolster infrastructure for artificial intelligence–driven data centres. According to a Reuters report, Meta will pay Corning up to $6 billion over the coming years for the supply of fibre-optic cables for its AI data centres.

Under the terms of the agreement, Corning will provide Meta with advanced optical fibre, cable, and connectivity-related products. At the same time, the company will expand its manufacturing capacity in the US state of North Carolina. Corning plans to enlarge its cable manufacturing facility in Hickory, where Meta will serve as the primary customer.

Optical connectivity technology has become critically important for AI data centres, which require massive computing power and high-speed data transmission. Driven by strong demand from major technology companies such as Meta, Microsoft, and Alphabet, Corning’s share price has risen significantly in 2025.

To stay ahead in the global AI race, Meta has pledged to invest nearly $600 billion over the next three years in technology infrastructure and job creation in the United States. Both companies said the Corning deal is expected to support a 15 to 20 percent increase in employment in North Carolina.
