Faiz Ahmad Taiyeb, Chief Adviser in charge of the Ministry of Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology, has recommended that Bangladesh Telephone Shilpo Sangstha- TSS (Bangladesh TelephoneIndustries Limited) replace 2G SIMs in its meters with 4G or 5G SIMs.

The recommendation came during Taiyeb’s visit to TSS’s office in Tongi, Gazipur on 21 January, where he also held discussions with officials. During the visit, he reviewed TSS’s ongoing operations, production capacity, challenges, and future plans.

Faiz Ahmad Taiyeb emphasized, “TSS plays a crucial role in achieving self-reliance in Bangladesh’s telecommunications and IT sector. Necessary support will continue to make TSS more effective and modern.”

Regarding the SIMs in meters, he suggested providing 4G or 5G SIMs instead of 2G, noting that sourcing IoT SIMs from BTCL could reduce costs. He also instructed officials to keep the product line slim and efficient.

The discussion was attended by TSS Managing Director Dr. Monowar Hossain Molla, General Manager Debashish Roy, and other senior officials.
