Bangladesh has reached another landmark in institutionalising its rapidly expanding freelancing sector with the successful completion of the Vulnerability Assessment and Penetration Testing (VAPT) of the country’s first national freelancer registration and ID card platform, freelancers.gov.bd. The milestone confirms the platform’s security readiness and technological robustness.

Implemented under the initiative of the ICT Division and the ICT Directorate, the platform will, for the first time, provide freelancers with a government-recognised digital identity.

According to the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Division, the official launch of the service is scheduled for January 13 (Tuesday). The division’s Public Relations Officer Mohammad Jasim Uddin said the platform will also function as a national freelancer database, storing and regularly updating data on the number of freelancers, their skills, types of work, and market trends.

Through the freelancer ID card, registered professionals will be able to access banking services, loans and credit card facilities, financial incentives, and both government and private-sector training programmes with greater ease. The initiative is also expected to strengthen the credibility and professional standing of Bangladeshi freelancers at both national and international levels. The data generated will play a vital role in future policymaking and strategic planning by relevant authorities.

Jasim Uddin added that the initiative will significantly enhance connectivity between freelancers and banks, government institutions, and the private sector, helping propel Bangladesh’s digital economy to new heights. It is being viewed as a strategic national effort to promote youth self-employment, boost foreign currency earnings, and expand technology-driven job opportunities.

With the implementation of this platform, Bangladesh has taken another decisive step towards bringing its freelancing sector under a secure, transparent, and institutional framework.
