Cloud Giants Collaborate: AWS–Google Launch Multicloud Link

To meet the growing demand for uninterrupted high-speed internet connectivity, Amazon and Google have jointly launched a new multicloud networking service. The companies announced that the initiative will enable private, high-speed connections between their cloud platforms in just minutes—an operation that previously took weeks, according to a Reuters report.

The service arrives at a time when even brief network outages can cause major global disruptions. On 20 October, an Amazon Web Services (AWS) outage shut down thousands of websites including Snapchat and Reddit. According to Parametrix, the incident cost U.S. companies an estimated USD 500 million to 650 million.

The new offering combines AWS’s Interconnect–Multicloud and Google Cloud’s Cross-Cloud Interconnect, enhancing interoperability across networks. Robert Kennedy, Vice President of AWS Network Services, said the collaboration marks a major shift in multicloud connectivity. Google Cloud added that the new network will allow customers to move data and applications seamlessly between different cloud platforms.

Salesforce has already joined as an early adopter of the technology. AWS, the world’s largest cloud service provider, generated USD 33 billion in revenue in the third quarter—more than double Google Cloud’s USD 15.16 billion. Meanwhile, Amazon, Google, and Microsoft are expanding infrastructure with multibillion-dollar investments to keep up with surging AI-driven internet traffic.
