Bangladesh Sets January 14, 2026 for Auction of 700 MHz Spectrum
Bangladesh will auction the much-discussed 700 MHz spectrum band to commercial mobile operators on 14 January 2026.
With this announcement, although legal complications prevent the allocation of 5 MHz, the remaining spectrum will be offered through a competitive bidding process.
On 27 November, Thursday, the Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) issued the official Radio Frequency Auction Guidelines.
Commenting on the development, Faiz Ahmad Taiyeb, Special Assistant to the Chief Adviser for the Ministry of Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology, said that numerous conspiracies had long surrounded Bangladesh’s 700 MHz band.
He noted that by artificially inflating the base price, vested groups had effectively blocked at least Tk 11,000 crore of state revenue.
“Leaving behind all such conspiracies, BTRC, the Posts and Telecommunications Division, and the Ministry of Finance have worked jointly and relentlessly to arrange this auction,” he said, expressing gratitude to all involved.
The 700 MHz band is considered highly valuable for improving 4G and 5G network coverage, particularly in densely populated areas like Bangladesh. It will also help expand reliable connectivity across both urban and rural regions.
