DU Teacher Monami Files Cyber Case Over Distorted Facebook Photos

Dhaka University (DU) teacher and Assistant Proctor, Shehrin Amin Bhuiya Monami, has filed a case under the Cyber Security Act against individuals who allegedly edited and posted her photos in a distorted manner on Facebook.

The case was lodged at Shahbagh Police Station on Monday afternoon, November 3, with overall assistance from Shakhawat Zakaria, the Law and Human Rights Secretary of the Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (DUCSU).

In her complaint, Monami alleged that her photos had been manipulated and circulated through various Facebook accounts, causing her humiliation and emotional distress.

The statement further mentioned that several Facebook users had been continuously editing and sharing her photos in indecent ways, accompanied by obscene and defamatory comments. She became aware of the incident around 11:25 a.m. on Sunday, November 2, while she was in her office at Dhaka University.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Shahbagh Police Station, Md Khalid Monsur, confirmed that four individuals had been named as accused in the case. According to the OC, the accused include journalist and activist Mujtaba Khondaker (Accused No. 1), writer and activist Mohiuddin Mohammad (Accused No. 2), Dhaka College student Nirab Hossain (Accused No. 3), and Ashfaq Hossain Evan (Accused No. 4).

The complaint states that these individuals posted edited, objectionable photos of the DU teacher on Facebook and made “indecent, obscene, and defamatory remarks.”
