The OTT platform Bongo has released a new web series titled Girgit, a thriller exploring the intertwined themes of crime, corruption, and betrayal. The series, directed by “Agamir Nirmata” award-winner Laskar Niaz Mahmud, premiered on Thursday, October 16, and delves into how human beings, like chameleons, change their colors — blurring the boundaries between truth and falsehood.

The cast of Girgit includes Irfan Sajjad, Mohona Mim, Nader Chowdhury, Shatabdi Wadud, Golam Farida Chhanda, and Milon Bhattacharya, among others. The screenplay was written by Jyotirmoy Roy, based on a story by A.S.M. Rahat Mehdi Haque.

Set in the once-peaceful town of Biralpur, the series begins with a brutal murder on a deserted highway leading into the city — a city now known as a hub for narcotics. The victim is a close associate of the influential businessman Mr. Chowdhury, who runs a corporate-style drug operation. The killing triggers widespread fear across Biralpur.

Detective Maruf Chowdhury, played by Irfan Sajjad, takes charge of the investigation. As he uncovers a dangerous corporate drug cartel, he finds himself ensnared in a web of betrayal and power struggles. One by one, more murders occur — even within the police station itself — raising chilling questions: Could the killer be someone within the force? In the midst of suspicion and deceit, the story unravels the mystery of who is the hunter and who the hunted.

Speaking about his vision for the series, director Laskar Niaz said, “I didn’t want to portray a superhuman detective; rather, I wanted to tell a human story about the characters who exist around us.”
