Rivian Refreshes Navigation with Real-Time Google Maps Features

American electric vehicle manufacturer Rivian has integrated new Google Maps features into its in-car navigation app, offering drivers enhanced travel and location information, according to a report by Engadget.

The update introduces real-time traffic updates, quicker alternate routes, road disruption reports from the Google Maps community, and detailed information about nearby points of interest. These include schedules, ratings, and even satellite imagery.

Rivian’s navigation system already included features such as estimated time of arrival, charging data, and charging stop planning. The company claims that the new update will make accessing and using this information significantly easier.

Despite the tech improvements, Rivian has recently faced several challenges. In February 2024, the company laid off 10 percent of its workforce and posted a loss of $1.5 billion in the final quarter of 2023.

Additionally, a Bloomberg report cited multiple injuries at Rivian’s Illinois factory, raising concerns about workplace safety. Rivian has refuted the claims, stating that the report was based on outdated incidents from two years ago and “does not accurately reflect current conditions.”
