Chinese electric vehicle (EV) manufacturer XPeng Motors and German automaker Volkswagen have announced an expansion of their partnership to develop an ultra-fast EV charging network in China. In a joint statement released on Monday, the companies stated that they would make each other’s fast-charging networks available to their customers. This collaboration will include nearly 20,000 charging points across 420 cities, according to Reuters.

Additionally, the two companies plan to co-develop jointly branded ultra-fast charging stations.

The partnership between XPeng and Volkswagen began in 2023 when Volkswagen acquired a 4.99% stake in XPeng for approximately USD 700 million. Through this collaboration, Volkswagen aims to introduce two EV models under its brand to the market by 2026.

Volkswagen also disclosed that it has developed a new intelligent and electric car architecture in collaboration with XPeng, aiming to deliver more affordable EVs to major markets like China, the largest EV market globally.
