The Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (BMB) at Jashore University of Science and Technology (JUST) hosted its first-ever National Conference on June 30 (Monday), focusing on advancements and innovations in molecular life sciences. Titled “Innovation in Molecular Life Science,” the event brought together students and academics from various universities across Bangladesh.
Held at the university’s central gallery, the conference covered developments in molecular biology across diverse fields including biochemistry, microbiology, pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, nutrition, marine biology, and related disciplines.
Professor Dr. Hossain Al Mamun, Vice Chancellor (In-Charge) of JUST, attended the event as the special guest. In his address, he said, “This conference brings together contributors to global research in biochemistry. If students can absorb knowledge from these speakers and apply it in higher education and research, this event will prove to be highly fruitful.”
He also reminded students that although the university is regionally located, “It is a national and global asset. It produces skilled manpower of international standards. Discovering new solutions through research is one of the core missions of a university. For that, you must be diligent and strive to build yourselves as skilled individuals who can contribute to the country and the nation.”
Among the keynote speakers were Professor Dr. Md. Atiar Rahman, Vice Chancellor of Rangamati University of Science and Technology; Dr. Mosha Noorjahan Begum, Associate Scientist at icddr,b; Professor Dr. Md. Aminur Rahman from JUST’s Fisheries and Marine Bioscience Department; and U.S.-based Postdoctoral Fellow Dr. Md. Habibur Rahman Molla. They delivered comprehensive presentations on the theme of molecular innovations, sharing their research findings and insights through detailed slides.
Following the opening session, the conference proceeded with oral and poster presentations. The event concluded at 4:00 PM with a formal vote of thanks to all participants.
Special remarks were also delivered by Professor Dr. Md. Sirajul Islam, Dean of the Faculty of Biological Science and Technology at JUST, and Professor Dr. Laila Noor Islam of the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at the University of Dhaka.
Dr. Md. Alauddin, Chair of the BMB Department and Convener of the conference, and Dr. Md. Omar Faruk, Associate Professor of Nutrition and Food Technology (NFT) and Member Secretary of the conference, also addressed the event. Faculty members including Dr. Md. Shimul Islam, Assistant Professor Tanvir Ahmed, and Fatema-Tuz-Zohra of JUST’s NFT department, along with faculty and students from other universities, were present.
The conference was moderated by NFT students Nishat Chandni Liza and Habiba Rahman.
