DNCC Deploys Devices to Detect Dirty Air

The Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) has announced plans to install air quality monitoring devices in every ward under its jurisdiction in a phased manner. Administrator Mohammad Ejaz shared this initiative at the closing ceremony of a two-day workshop titled “Air Quality Monitoring,” held on Monday, June 23, at the DNCC Auditorium.
In his address as chief guest, Mohammad Ejaz stated, “Air quality monitoring devices have already been installed at key locations in 10 regions of DNCC, and they are actively measuring pollution levels.” He emphasized that DNCC is working relentlessly to transform Dhaka into a climate-resilient and environmentally friendly city.
He also informed that DNCC has initiated a research-based project to continuously monitor the air quality across its areas. “The project is being implemented with financial support from Vital Strategies and technical assistance from Nature Conservation Management,” he said.
Under the project, sensor-based devices are used to measure pollutants such as PM2.5 (fine particulate matter) and NO₂ (nitrogen dioxide). Currently, air quality monitoring stations have been installed in various DNCC areas, including Uttara, Mohammadpur, Kachkura, ward councillor offices, community centers, and regional office rooftops.
The event was attended by DNCC’s Chief Executive Officer Muhammad Asaduzzaman and other senior officials. At the conclusion of the workshop, DNCC Administrator Mohammad Ejaz distributed certificates to the participants.
