Arafat Assembly: Pilgrims Gather as Hajj Sermon Broadcast in 34 Languages Including Bangla

Today marks the sacred Day of Arafat, with over 1.5 million pilgrims from across the world converging at the plains of Arafat to perform the central rites of Hajj. In one of the most spiritually significant moments of the pilgrimage, Sheikh Dr. Saleh bin Humaid, Imam and Khatib of the Grand Mosque in Makkah, is delivering the Hajj sermon from Masjid Namirah.

For the benefit of a global Muslim audience, the sermon is being translated live into 34 languages, including Bangla. Listeners can access the live Bangla translation by visiting the Manaratalharamain website from any device and selecting the Bangla language option. The sermon began at 12:00 PM local time in Saudi Arabia (3:00 PM Bangladesh time) on Thursday, June 5, marking the start of the formal proceedings of Hajj, which are being streamed live on YouTube and various websites. Many viewers, especially netizens, are virtually participating in the pilgrimage through phones, tablets, and smart TVs. The spiritual resonance of "Labbayk Allahumma Labbayk" echoes in digital space, symbolizing the unity of the Muslim Ummah.

As in previous years, the Hajj sermon is being translated to help convey its universal message. The translation project is managed by the General Presidency for the Affairs of the Two Holy Mosques, and this year marks the sixth consecutive time the sermon is being translated into Bangla.

Dr. Muhammad Khalilur Rahman is leading the Bangla interpretation team, supported by A F M Wahidur Rahman, Mubinur Rahman, and Nazmus Saqib. All members of the team have studied at Umm Al-Qura University in Makkah.

According to the Saudi Press Agency, the Hajj sermon translation project was initiated in 2018 (1439 Hijri) under the directive of King Salman bin Abdulaziz. Initially launched in five languages, the project expanded in 2020 to include Bangla. The initiative aims to deliver Islam’s message of peace and unity to audiences around the world through the translated sermon.
