Amazon has laid off approximately 100 employees from its Devices and Services division, which is responsible for products such as the Kindle, Echo smart speakers, Alexa voice assistant, and Zoox autonomous vehicles, according to a report by Reuters.

The company stated that the move is part of a routine business review and that the number of affected roles is small relative to the overall size of the unit.

In an official statement, Amazon said, “We’ve made the decision to eliminate a small number of roles on some of our Devices and Services teams. This is part of a broader effort to streamline operations, enhance team efficiency, and align with our product roadmap.”

The company had previously implemented minor layoffs in the Alexa and other units. However, in contrast to the recent cuts, Amazon also added nearly 4,000 new employees during the first quarter of this year.

In March, Amazon announced a significant transformation of its Alexa platform with the integration of generative AI, signaling ongoing innovation despite the workforce adjustments.
