Tragic Train Collision Claims Newlywed Couple in Uttara While Posing for Selfie

A newlywed couple, identified as Masum Mia (23) and Iti (20), tragically lost their lives after being struck by a train while taking selfies on the railway tracks in Uttara, Dhaka.
The accident occurred on Saturday evening (April 26) in the Courtbari area. Around 8:00 PM, a critically injured Masum was brought to a hospital by a bystander, where doctors declared him dead. Iti died instantly at the scene.
Iti’s body has been handed over to her family, while Masum’s remains are currently held at the Airport Railway Police Outpost.
Sub-Inspector Mohammad Ali, in charge of the Airport Police Outpost, stated that the couple had recently married against their families’ wishes after a period of courtship. Masum hailed from Netrokona, while Iti was from Mymensingh. After marrying, they had been living in a rented home in the Dakshin Khan police station area.
Shubho, the individual who brought Masum to the hospital, informed the media that, "At the far end of Sector 8 in Uttara East police station area, they were walking along the railway line while taking selfies. At that time, one train was heading toward Dhaka and another toward Tongi. Around 6:15 PM, as both trains were crossing, Iti was struck by the Tongi-bound train and died at the scene. Masum was critically injured and initially taken to Kuwait Maitree Hospital. As his condition deteriorated, he was transferred to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where doctors declared him dead."
Eyewitness Al Islam Shubho added, "In the evening, they were walking hand in hand and taking selfies with a mobile phone. Suddenly, a Gazipur-bound train hit them. The woman died on the spot, and the young man succumbed to his injuries around 8:00 PM at the hospital."
