KUET Unrest: Student Leaders Assaulted Amid Protest Over Vice-Chancellor

Four students leading the protest demanding the resignation of the Vice-Chancellor of Khulna University of Engineering and Technology (KUET) were brutally assaulted by unidentified assailants. The injured students have been identified as Mujahidul Islam, Md. Wabadullah, Galib Rahat, and Mohan.

The incident occurred around 8:00 PM on Saturday in front of the Fulbari Gate bus counter. The students sustained various injuries including bruises and contusions and are currently undergoing treatment at the KUET Medical Center.

Galib Rahat, one of the injured students, stated, "After evening, we were wandering around and went to Fulbari Gate intersection. Around 8:00 PM, we were eating fuchka near the Shaheed Minar. Suddenly, 8 to 10 assailants attacked us indiscriminately with sticks and stamps."

Another injured student added, "During the beating, some of them hurled abuses saying, ‘Call the VC your father.’"

The students were unable to identify the attackers but mentioned that approximately 12 individuals were involved in the assault.

In response to the attack, students called for a protest march at 10:30 PM that night.

Kabir Hossain, Officer-in-Charge of Fulbari Gate Police Station, said, "Upon hearing of the initial incident, we have deployed multiple police teams to apprehend the attackers. I am also going to speak with the students."
