CUET Staff Council Elects New Leadership in 2025 Polls

Md. Jamal Uddin has been elected President and Priotosh Chakraborty as General Secretary in the recent Staff Association election held at Chittagong University of Engineering and Technology (CUET).

The election took place on Tuesday, April 22, 2025, at the university’s central auditorium. CUET Vice-Chancellor and Chief Patron of the Staff Association, Professor Dr. Mahmood Abdul Matin Bhuiyan, inaugurated the voting by casting his own vote.

The election was overseen by Chief Election Commissioner Dr. Abu Sadat Muhammad Sayem, Head of the Department of Petroleum and Mining Engineering and Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering. The election commissioners included Mohammad Fazlur Rahman, Deputy Director (Public Relations); Sagar Talukder, Sub-Divisional Engineer; and Muhammad Saber, Senior Cataloger. The Election Commission Secretary was Senior Technician Mohammad Fazlul Haque.

After vote counting, it was confirmed that Md. Jamal Uddin secured more votes than his rival to be elected President. Other elected officials include Mohammad Shah Alam Miah as Senior Vice President, Md. Jahangir Alam as Vice President, Priotosh Chakraborty as General Secretary, Kulsum Begum as Senior Joint Secretary, Imran Hossain as Joint General Secretary, Md. Humayun Kabir as Organizational Secretary, Subrata Ghosh as Assistant Organizational Secretary, Md. Sakibul Alam as Treasurer, Abu Monsur as Office Secretary, Md. Robiul Hossain as Secretary of Information, Publicity and Publications, Md. Rashedul Islam as Religious Secretary, Sabbir Khan as Social Welfare Secretary, Md. Jamal Uddin (again) as Sports Secretary, and Choton Kanti Dey (Anik) as Cultural Secretary. Shakila Sultana has been elected as Women’s Affairs Secretary.

Additionally, the elected Executive Members are Md. Abul Kashem, Md. Ershad Miah, Md. Zahirul Islam, Md. Nazmul Hossain, and Md. Mahiuddin.
