WhatsApp Introduces New Features to Make Group Chats More Convenient
Popular instant messaging platform WhatsApp has introduced several important features to make its group chat experience more convenient and efficient.
Among the new features being rolled out to users on both Android and iOS is ‘Group Status’. This feature allows users to post special status updates intended exclusively for members of a specific group. These updates remain visible for 24 hours and will not appear to their regular contacts outside the group in the main status list.
Major Changes to Group Messaging and Status Updates
According to WhatsApp's latest update, any group member can now post a separate status update exclusively for a particular group. Like regular status updates, these will automatically disappear after 24 hours. However, other group members will be able to respond directly to these statuses or add their own updates.
Alongside this, WhatsApp has made a major change to its message-pinning system. Previously, messages could only be pinned for a specified period. From now on, important messages can be pinned permanently without any time restrictions.
Access to Previous Messages and New Filters
The process of sharing previous message history with newly added group members has also been made easier. Once a new member joins a group, users can simply tap their name in the chat list and share a specific portion of the previous conversation at a convenient time.
An enhanced chat-filtering feature has also been introduced. It allows users to easily view all unread group chats in one place where they have been specifically tagged, mentioned, or directly replied to in a message.
WhatsApp said these features are being rolled out globally in phases, primarily to make the group messaging experience more transparent and efficient.
