Marking a major technical leap in decentralizing digital crime investigation and securing national cyberspace, the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of Bangladesh Police has formally launched a specialized Cyber Police Centre (CPC) in Chattogram. Established with technical and grant cooperation from the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA), the hub was officially inaugurated on Wednesday, 14 October 2026, at 11:00 AM at the Metropolitan Police Lines in Dampara, Chattogram, by Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed, MP, serving as the chief guest.
Presided over by Additional IGP and CID Chief Barrister Mohammad Mosharraf Hossain, the inaugural ceremony was attended by Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to Bangladesh H.E. Kim Ji-joon and Member of Parliament for Chattogram-10 Sayeed Al Noman as honored guests. Special guests included Inspector General of Police (IGP) Md. Ali Hossain Fakir, BPM, and Additional IGP of Police Headquarters Sardar Nurul Amin, BPM. KOICA Country Director Jihoon Kim, Korean Embassy Deputy Chief of Mission Kim Hae-jung, KOICA Deputy Country Director Sujin Kong, and Project Manager Prof. Gibum Kim represented the partner nation.
Approved by ECNEC on 18 April 2023 with an investment of Tk 59.08 crore under the project titled "Safer Cyberspace for Digital Bangladesh: Enhancing National & Regional Digital Investigation Capability of Bangladesh Police," the initiative delivered a 4-story facility built upon a 10-story foundation. The deployment included expanding digital forensic workstations, deploying advanced hardware-software analytics suites, and executing both domestic and overseas operational training programs for law enforcement personnel.
The establishment of the specialized regional center significantly elevates CID's operational readiness to track digital syndicates, conduct rapid electronic evidence extractions, and intercept cyber fraud across southeastern Bangladesh. Officials highlighted that the facility will strengthen counter-capabilities against identity theft, cryptocurrency laundering, digital extortion, and extremist activities on dark-web networks, establishing a safer cyberspace for citizens, official sources confirmed.
