Police Recover German Tourist’s Stolen Laptop
- Police recovered the laptop from a clothing shop in Natore
- The young man’s father reportedly found it under a train seat
- Police are still searching for the tourist’s other belongings
Police have recovered the laptop stolen from German tourist Krill Lander in Natore. The device was recovered at around 9:30 pm on Sunday, October 11, from a clothing shop in the Kafuria Patti area of Natore Sadar. Police have taken Antor Kumar Saha, 20, and his father, Amal Kumar Saha, into custody for questioning. No legal action had been taken against them at the time of the police statement.
Natore Superintendent of Police Mohammad Sharif Uddin confirmed the recovery. He said, Several police teams had been working to find the laptop since it went missing on October 7. Police recovered it from Antor on Sunday night.
According to Sharif Uddin, Antor’s father, Amal Kumar Saha, found the laptop under a train seat near Madhnagar Station on Thursday, October 8, while travelling from Natore to Naogaon on the Titumir Express. He later took it to his in-laws’ home in Naogaon and informed his son. Antor reportedly asked his father to keep the laptop and said they would deal with the matter later.
The police superintendent said officers tracked them after they returned to Natore and recovered the laptop. Both Antor and his father remain in police custody. He expressed satisfaction over the recovery and said police had spoken to Krill, who was also happy to hear that his laptop had been found. Police are continuing efforts to recover the tourist’s other belongings.
Natore Sadar Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Monsur Rahman provided further details at around 9:45 pm on Sunday. He said all police units had been working together since the foreign tourist reported the theft. On Saturday night, a Natore police team also conducted searches at several locations in Lalmonirhat district.
After 6 pm on Sunday, a team from Natore Sadar Police Station went to Noor Cloth Store in the Kafuria Patti neighbourhood to look for the laptop. Antor told officers there that his father had found a laptop. Police recovered the device from the young man’s home in the same area at around 9:30 pm. Antor was taken to the police station with the laptop at around 9:45 pm.
OC Monsur Rahman said police had verified that the recovered laptop belonged to Krill Lander. Officers contacted the German tourist by phone and informed him of the recovery. He was delighted by the news.
The laptop and a camera were stolen at Natore Railway Station on the afternoon of Wednesday, October 7. Krill was going to an ATM booth to withdraw money to buy a train ticket. He left his bag, containing the laptop and camera, with a man who claimed to be a railway official. When Krill returned after withdrawing the money, both the man and the bag were gone. He later learned that the person was not a railway employee. On Thursday afternoon, he also visited Rajshahi Railway Police Station while searching for the stolen laptop and camera.
Meanwhile, the Special Response Battalion (SRB-5) announced a reward for assistance in identifying the suspected offender and for providing accurate information. After analysing CCTV footage and identifying the suspect’s face, the unit put up reward-announcement posters featuring his photograph at key locations inside Natore Railway Station on Saturday night, October 10.
