Empowering Over Eleven Hundred Female Students
CID and bKash Host Cyber Security Workshop
- CID and bKash host awareness workshops on cybersecurity and MFS transactions
- 1,100 female students from Viqarunnisa and Dhaka University halls joined sessions
- Nationwide expansion planned to educate students on PIN, OTP, and phishing threats
To enhance digital privacy and safeguard students from online fraud, the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) and bKash jointly organized a series of cybersecurity and safe financial transaction awareness workshops. On Sunday (October 11, 2026), officials confirmed that around 1,100 female students from Viqarunnisa Noon School and College alongside Dhaka University's Ruqayyah and Shamsun Nahar halls participated in the sessions. Experts from the Cyber Police Centre (CPC) of CID and the External Affairs Department of bKash delivered technical guidance on personal data protection and fraud mitigation in digital financial services.
The sessions focused on guidelines for safe Mobile Financial Services (MFS) usage paired with real-world case studies detailing emerging cyber risks. Key discussions emphasized strict confidentiality of PINs and OTPs, identifying phishing links masked as lucrative promotions, and reporting suspicious activities via official support channels. Experts also urged participants to fact-check digital content before sharing to curb misinformation online.
The inaugural session took place at Viqarunnisa Noon School and College, engaging nearly 650 students. Md. Jahidul Islam, BPM-Seba, Additional DIG of CPC, CID, discussed cybercrime dynamics, personal data protocols, and risk mitigation strategies. Sana Shaminur Rahman, DIG of CPC, CID, attended as the chief guest, while Major AKM Monirul Karim (retd.), EVP and Head of External Affairs at bKash, was present as the special guest.
The outreach then expanded to the University of Dhaka, gathering 450 students across two sessions at Ruqayyah Hall and Shamsun Nahar Hall. Md. Shafiuddin Shaheen, DIG (Acting) of CPC, CID, joined both campus events as chief guest. The sessions were presided over by Ruqayyah Hall Provost Prof. Dr. Hosne Ara Begum and Shamsun Nahar Hall Provost Prof. Dr. Nasrin Sultana, respectively.
Organizers stated that these interactive cybersecurity workshops will be scaled to other educational institutions across Bangladesh in phases.
While advanced technology and law enforcement vigilance are crucial, securing a digital financial ecosystem relies heavily on user awareness. In line with this vision, bKash has been organizing regular workshops with law enforcement bodies (Police, DB, CID, PBI) since 2017 for investigating officers and agents. To build a safer digital future, a dedicated drive has now been launched to educate young students across nationwide educational institutions.
