Restaurant Owners Association Protests High Commissions and Hidden Operational Charges
Foodpanda Services to Shut Down in Chittagong From October 5
- High platform commissions drive up restaurant operational costs and consumer prices
- Complete shutdown of Foodpanda services across all Chittagong eateries starting October 5, 2026
- Association remains open for constructive dialogue to reach a sustainable commission model
In response to growing financial pressure caused by high commission rates and additional platform fees, the Chittagong Restaurant Owners Association has announced a citywide suspension of Foodpanda services starting October 5, 2026. The decision encompasses all small to large-scale eateries across Chittagong city.
According to the association, while digital food delivery partnerships remain valuable, the current commission structure disproportionately inflates restaurant operational costs, indirectly burdening end consumers with higher food prices. The collective action aims to protect local restaurant businesses and press for a fairer digital commerce environment.
Despite the shutdown announcement, the association emphasized that opportunities for a constructive resolution remain open. Restaurant owners expressed hope that Foodpanda authorities will reconsider their commission and charge structure to establish a sustainable and equitable business partnership.
