Terming the spread of fake news and misinformation on social media an 'ominous sign', State Minister for Information and Broadcasting Yaser Khan Chowdhury urged the youth to play a vigilant and responsible role. He was speaking as the chief guest at the closing ceremony of the '2nd National Media Carnival 2026' held at Notre Dame College in Dhaka on Saturday (October 3).
The State Minister noted that Bangladeshi students have consistently led nation-building efforts, highlighting their golden chapter in the 2024 mass movement. He emphasized that distinguishing truth from falsehood in the digital age requires strong media literacy and communication skills among students.
Recalling his student days at Notre Dame College, he expressed optimism that regular media carnivals will enhance students' critical thinking and creative capabilities. He added that under the direction of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, the Ministry is actively addressing these issues and will continue supporting youth-led initiatives.
