Short-form news for younger audiences
DW Bangla Launches New TikTok Channel
- DW Bangla launches a dedicated TikTok channel for audiences in Bangladesh
- The channel will deliver domestic, regional and global news through short videos
- Accuracy, balance and diverse perspectives will remain key editorial priorities
As audiences increasingly turn to short-form video for news, Deutsche Welle (DW) has launched a dedicated Bengali-language TikTok channel for viewers in Bangladesh. The new platform will publish short, accessible and fact-checked videos covering domestic, regional and international developments.
The official launch took place at 4:00pm on Wednesday, September 30, at the Tawfiq Azim Seminar Hall of The Daily Star in Dhaka. DW said the new channel will also focus on reaching younger audiences and women in Bangladesh.
DW Bangla head Sanjiv Burman, DW Bangla deputy chief Amrita Parvez, Asia regional distribution manager Maximilian Peikert, multimedia journalist Zubayer Ahmed and several other DW Bangla journalists attended the event.
Sanjiv Burman said, “The way audiences consume news is changing rapidly. TikTok is also becoming increasingly popular in Bangladesh. Considering this change, we have started our TikTok journey for Bangladeshi audiences. We have already produced several pieces of content on a trial basis and observed audience responses. Today’s event marks the formal launch of our new platform.”
Burman also said DW Bangla would continue to prioritize accuracy, balance and diverse perspectives in its journalism.
Amrita Parvez said, “One of our key goals on the new platform is to make news easier for young audiences to access. We plan to use TikTok’s short-form video format to quickly present the key facts of important events and issues. The channel will also cover regional and international developments alongside news from Bangladesh.”
DW said it will adapt selected existing content for social media while also developing dedicated formats around topics and perspectives relevant to the lives and interests of younger audiences and women in Bangladesh.
Deutsche Welle currently provides news and information in 32 languages worldwide. Its television, online and other digital services cover Germany, Europe and international affairs. DW has also maintained a Bengali-language service for many years.
