New Power Substation Launched at NSTU

Noakhali Science and Technology University (NSTU) has launched a new power substation designed to convert 33kV electricity to 11kV, strengthening the reliability of power distribution across the campus.

The 10/14MVA substation, constructed by Noakhali Palli Bidyut Samity, was inaugurated on Monday, September 21, 2026, by NSTU Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Golam Rabbani.

At the inauguration, the Vice-Chancellor said the new substation would provide a long-term solution to the university’s power supply problems. He said normal electricity supply is expected to continue through the substation except in cases involving national grid disruptions or natural disasters.

The substation receives electricity at 33,000 volts and converts it to 11,000 volts for distribution across the campus. With a rated capacity of 10/14MVA, the facility is expected to strengthen power distribution for academic buildings and other university infrastructure.

The new facility also increases the university’s local capacity to manage and transform incoming electricity before distribution. However, major disruptions to the national grid or natural disasters could still affect supply, according to the Vice-Chancellor.

The inauguration was attended by NSTU Pro-Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Muhammad Shafiqul Islam, Treasurer Professor Dr Md Hasan Uddin, Chief Engineer and Director (Additional Charge) of the Planning, Development and Works Office Md Jamal Hossain, and Executive Engineer (Electrical) Mohammad Sharif Hossain.

Deputy General Managers of Noakhali Palli Bidyut Samity and Palli Bidyut Samity Sonapur, along with NSTU faculty members and officials, were also present.
