Biplobi Chhatra Maitree Calls for Campus Crackdown on Cyberbullying Complaint
The Dhaka University unit of the Biplobi Chhatra Maitree (Revolutionary Students' Alliance) has lodged a formal complaint with the university administration, urging action against those involved in cyberbullying and making offensive remarks about female students and teachers.
On Tuesday, November 4, the student organization submitted the complaint to Pro-Vice Chancellor (Administration) Professor Sayma Haque Bidisha.
According to the group, several female students and faculty members of Dhaka University have recently faced various forms of online harassment and bullying. The organization accused a Facebook group titled “Dhaka University Students’ Parliament” of turning into a platform for “offensive comments and character assassination.”
The complaint stated, “It has recently come to our attention that extremely indecent comments have been made about Dr. Samina Lutfa, a faculty member of the Department of Sociology, on several posts in this group. Current female student Faria Matin has already been subjected to extensive cyberbullying.”
The organization emphasized that ensuring the cyber safety of women at the university and preventing online bullying should be treated as top priorities. It urged the administration to take “immediate and necessary action” on the allegations. Along with the complaint, the group also submitted a list of the accused individuals and relevant screenshots as evidence.
