Environmental Monitoring to Control Breeding Sites
NSTU Holds Dengue Prevention Workshop
- Remove stagnant water from residential areas
- Eliminate potential Aedes breeding sites
- Monitor hall surroundings regularly
Noakhali Science and Technology University (NSTU) has held a dengue prevention workshop focusing on identifying and eliminating Aedes mosquito breeding sites, removing stagnant water and regularly monitoring residential hall environments.
The workshop was held at 2pm on Monday, September 21, at the dining room of July Shaheed Smriti Chhatri Hall. The initiative was organised by the hall authorities.
Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Golam Rabbani attended as chief guest. Pro-Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Mohammad Shafiqul Islam, Treasurer Professor Dr Md Hasan Uddin and Proctor Professor A F M Arifur Rahman were present as special guests. Hall Provost Dr Nahid Sultana chaired the event.
The workshop identified residential surroundings as an important area for dengue prevention, with emphasis on regular cleaning, removal of stagnant water, destruction of potential Aedes breeding sites and monitoring of areas around the hall.
Hall Provost Dr Nahid Sultana said three areas should receive priority: cleanliness and removal of stagnant water, regular environmental monitoring and awareness among students.
She said dengue prevention cannot depend solely on the hall authorities and that students must also play a responsible role. Regular monitoring and cleanliness can help control potential Aedes breeding sites, she added.
Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Golam Rabbani stressed cleaning weeds around the hall and eliminating potential mosquito breeding sites. He also described the initiative as consistent with national dengue prevention efforts.
Pro-Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Mohammad Shafiqul Islam expressed concern over the spread of dengue among young people and urged students to keep their rooms, courtyards and surrounding areas clean.
Treasurer Professor Dr Md Hasan Uddin said, “Prevention is better than cure. Our awareness can keep us healthy.” He urged everyone to take preventive measures at both individual and institutional levels.
Residential students, hall staff and relevant university officials attended the workshop.
