Bangladesh and the United States have emphasized expanding cooperation in technology-driven sectors, including water management, municipal waste processing, renewable energy, and agricultural cold storage engineering. US Ambassador to Bangladesh Brent T. Christensen held a high-level meeting with Minister for Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Dr. Abdul Moyeen Khan at the minister's office on Monday, 24 August.
During the meeting, Minister Dr. Abdul Moyeen Khan highlighted the importance of adopting US advanced technical knowledge and engineering systems to upgrade local water infrastructure, waste-to-energy processing, and agricultural cold storage. He stated that sharing technical expertise and deploying cooperative engineering frameworks will ensure more sustainable and efficient development outcomes for Bangladesh.
Dr. Abdul Moyeen Khan noted, "We are a people's government committed to public empowerment. While advancing national economic progress, the government is prioritizing the empowerment of local governance structures through technological modernization." He further emphasized that deploying scientific waste management is vital for sustainable urban planning and environmental protection.
Ambassador Brent T. Christensen congratulated the Minister on assuming his portfolio, acknowledging the direct impact of local government services on public welfare, and reaffirmed the US commitment to extending technical and institutional assistance.
State Minister for Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Mir Shahe Alam emphasized that modern waste engineering remains a top priority for the Prime Minister, underlining the critical need for global technology partnerships.
Secretary of the Local Government Division Md. Shahidul Hasan, Secretary of the Rural Development and Cooperatives Division Rafiqul E Mohamed, and senior ministerial officials were present at the meeting.
