Clash Between Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal Factions at NSTU
- Nine students including journalists injured in NSTU campus political violence
- Outsiders armed with sticks spark terror among general university students
- Vice-Chancellor promises strict legal action and orders swift investigation committee
A violent clash broke out between two factions of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) at Noakhali Science and Technology University (NSTU). On Tuesday (August 18), around 2:00 PM, the campus witnessed intense chases and counter-chases stemming from midnight arguments. The violent confrontation left nine students including working journalists injured, while police detained an armed outsider from the spot.
Eyewitnesses reported that tension erupted rapidly at noon when one JCD group launched a sudden attack across campus grounds. Panic spread as several outsiders carrying sticks actively participated in the violence. NSTU Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Golam Rabbani, along with the Pro-VC, Treasurer, and Proctor, rushed to the spot to regain control. The injured students—Shamim Hossain, Sohag Chakma, Mahmudul Hasan Antar, Kaif Hasan, Zahir Hossain, Anisur Rahman Sifat, Jahidul Islam Hasan, and Samiul Islam—received medical treatment at NSTU Medical Center and Noakhali General Hospital. Three journalists were harassed and assaulted while fulfilling professional duties.
Assessing the scene directly, Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Golam Rabbani stated, "I personally arrived at the scene to observe the overall campus situation and immediately take necessary measures. Administration members and teachers are working jointly to maintain control. Currently, additional external law enforcement is not required inside campus, though further action will be taken if necessary. The unwanted chaos has been removed. Strict administrative and legal action will be enforced after identifying those involved, and a probe committee will be formed shortly to submit a report within a fixed timeframe." //DBTech/SHM/MIS//
