AI Auto Fine Launches On Highway
- ✦ Automated AI fine system launches on Dhaka-Chittagong Highway
- ✦ Digital cameras track speeding and reverse driving for fines
- ✦ Home Minister vows to expand system across all highways
Artificial intelligence and automated camera systems officially integrated into traffic enforcement along the Dhaka-Chittagong Highway. Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed inaugurated the project at the Highway Police Command, Control and Monitoring Center in Meghnaghat, Narayanganj on Tuesday (August 18, 2026). The initiative aims to enhance road safety, curb fatal accidents, and enable transparent, real-time traffic law enforcement.
Speaking at the event, Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed highlighted that this technological breakthrough will revolutionize national traffic management. He announced plans to expand automated AI fines to all major highways based on performance evaluations. The minister issued a stern warning against extortion by vehicle owners, transport unions, or police, noting that all actions will be recorded by AI cameras.
The minister ordered immediate legal action against unauthorized three-wheelers on hig
h-speed corridors. He instructed the Highway Police chief to manage local feeder road access and CNG refueling logistics systematically. Bangladesh Road Transport Workers Federation President and MP Shamsur Rahman Shimul Biswas, Narayanganj-3 MP Azharul Islam Mannan, and Inspector General of Police (IGP) Md. Ali Hossain Fakir attended as special guests.
Under this project, 490 high-definition AI cameras were installed across highway pillars to detect speeding, illegal overtaking, wrong-way driving, signal violations, and unlawful parking. Detected violations sync directly with the BRTA database, generating automatic SMS fine notifications to registered vehicle owners. Fines can be paid online via Mobile Financial Services (MFS), while repeat offenders face vehicle registration cancellation.
