Since entering the foldable smartphone market, Google has attracted technology enthusiasts with its distinctive designs. During the first two generations, the company made significant changes to screen size and usability while introducing notable improvements to the camera system.

However, a recent review published by technology outlet Engadget suggests that the newly launched Google Pixel 11 Pro Fold does not deliver the kind of innovation many had expected.

While market leader Samsung continues to refine its Galaxy Z Fold series, technology analysts believe innovation in Google's Pixel foldable lineup has largely stalled.

Limited Improvements in Design and Durability

The new phone features a 6.5-inch outer display and an 8-inch flexible inner display. Although the screen sizes remain unchanged from the previous generation, brightness has increased by 20%.

For improved durability, Google has used a special glass-fiber material on the rear panel, which the company claims is extremely difficult to break.

The phone weighs 239 grams, making it 10% lighter than its predecessor. However, it remains considerably heavier than the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8. At 10.1mm thick, the device can also feel somewhat bulky in the hand.

Although it offers a high level of protection against dust and water, Google has apparently fallen short of making the foldable significantly thinner and lighter.

Processor and Camera Upgrades

The Pixel 11 Pro Fold is powered by Google's new Tensor G6 processor, which considerably improves web browsing, app performance and overall responsiveness compared with the previous generation.

A new security chip has also been included to provide protection against sophisticated cyberattacks.

However, the battery capacity has actually been reduced to 4,806mAh. Wired charging remains unchanged, while wireless charging has been upgraded to 25W with the help of new technology.

The main camera sensor has been upgraded to 48 megapixels, which should improve image quality. However, unlike the other Pro models in the Pixel 11 series, the Fold does not offer 120x zoom, potentially disappointing photography enthusiasts.

Software and Competition

Like the other Pixel 11 series devices, the Pixel 11 Pro Fold includes several new AI-powered features.

For multitasking on its large display, Google has introduced Bubbles, a floating-window feature that makes it easier to move between different applications.

However, unlike some competing brands, Google has not included a persistent on-screen taskbar, which could have made multitasking more convenient.

The phone's price has also increased by $100 compared with its predecessor. With no particularly groundbreaking foldable-specific feature accompanying the higher price, questions remain over how effectively the Pixel 11 Pro Fold can compete with foldable offerings from Samsung and Motorola.
