State Minister for Health Dr. M A Muhit has announced that the 'Health Management Institute' in Savar will be opened soon to enhance the managerial skills of health administrators at the upazila and district levels. In the interim period before it achieves institutional status, he directed the National Institute of Preventive and Social Medicine (NIPSOM) to provide management training to field-level health officials. He made these remarks as the chief guest at an event disclosing the results of research activities conducted under the revenue budget for the 2025-26 fiscal year, held at the NIPSOM auditorium in Mohakhali on Tuesday morning.

The State Minister emphasized that the government is giving top priority to primary healthcare and making government health services accessible to people at the grass-roots level. Referring to Upazila Health Complexes as the foundation for resolving healthcare issues, he reaffirmed the decision to upgrade all 30-bed and 50-bed Upazila Health Complexes across Bangladesh to 101-bed facilities. Highlighting the current degraded state of rural health systems, he noted that a lack of proper investment, unoptimized manpower deployment, and neglect in supply and logistics led to the system's breakdown.

Praising NIPSOM's research, Dr. Muhit stressed that local health plans should be formulated at the upazila level using the vast data collected daily from the field, rather than relying solely on national data. He urged NIPSOM researchers to organize pilot online workshops to teach Upazila Health and Family Planning Officers (UHFPOS) data utilization strategies. Additionally, he proposed a 3-to-6-month mentoring initiative to encourage public medical college students in research. He concluded that alongside infrastructural upgrades, providing professional management training to doctors holding administrative roles remains a top priority to ensure desired healthcare services.
