BGMEA and BTMA have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to jointly organize the 'Bangladesh International Textile and Apparel Machinery Exhibition' (BITMA) to bolster the country's textile and apparel sector through technology, innovation, and business collaboration.

BGMEA President Mahmud Hasan Khan and BTMA President Showkat Aziz Russel signed the agreement on behalf of their respective organizations at the Gulshan Club in Dhaka on Tuesday. Organized in partnership with an international exhibition management firm, the event in Dhaka will showcase cutting-edge machinery, AI-driven manufacturing technologies, automation solutions, and eco-friendly production systems. Under the agreement, a 10-member joint committee with equal representation will oversee the exhibition, with BTMA holding the chairmanship for the inaugural edition.

Speaking at the event, BGMEA President Mahmud Hasan Khan emphasized that this partnership extends beyond an exhibition to serve as a long-term platform for driving national economic growth and sustainable garment sector development. Highlighting the goal of achieving a $100 billion export target, he stressed the need for adding at least $20 billion in local value through a robust backward linkage industry.

BTMA President Showkat Aziz Russel noted that their flagship biennial exhibition, previously known as 'DTG', will now become a larger and globally recognized event, allowing local entrepreneurs to access the latest international technologies right at home. Industry leaders expressed confidence that this collaborative effort will accelerate technology transfer, attract investments, and help navigate post-LDC graduation challenges.
