Maliha Wins First Place in Recycled Apparel Showcase

Universal College Bangladesh (UCBD), in partnership with the University of Central Lancashire (UCLan), UK, organized a fashion competition titled 'Vision and Vogue'. Maliha Nawar secured first place by showcasing local heritage-inspired apparel made from recycled materials. Nusaiba Sadmim Hoque achieved second place, and Samina Aktar secured third place in the competition.

Organized by UCBD's Department of Fashion Promotion and Marketing, the event took place on Saturday, August 1, at its Gulshan campus. Students from classes 11 and 12, along with GED students aged 15 to 23, participated individually or in teams. Following a live fashion show featuring the top 15 contestants, a prize distribution ceremony was held where the top three winners were jointly awarded a total prize of 60,000 BDT. Additionally, special scholarships were presented to all 15 finalists.

The judging panel comprised Associate Dean of the School of Arts and Media at UCLan Paresh Parmar, International Partnerships Project Manager Richard Antony Breme, Managing Director of Experience Group's brand 'Ameera' Zainab Maqsood, UCBD Provost Professor Muhammad Ismail Hossain, and Health Coach and Fashion Designer Zareen Rashid.

Regarding the initiative, Chief Operating Officer of UCBD Kingshuk Gupta stated, "'Vision and Vogue' is a unique example of how creativity can harmonize sustainable materials, tradition, and brand vision. We want young creators to view fashion as a domain for innovation and positive change."

UCLan Associate Dean Paresh Parmar commented, "The manner in which the contestants utilized eco-friendly materials to reflect design, identity, and narrative is truly commendable."

First-place winner Maliha Nawar shared, "'Vision and Vogue' provided us with an opportunity to view fashion from a different perspective. Transforming discarded everyday items into meaningful, wearable clothing was both challenging and gratifying."
