The Institute of Nuclear Medical Physics (INMP) and the National Institute of Cancer Research and Hospital (NICRH) have signed a significant memorandum of understanding (MoU) aimed at making cancer treatment services more accessible and improving both the quality and scope of patient care in the country.

The bilateral agreement was signed on Tuesday, July 14, at the conference room of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare in Dhaka. As a result of the agreement, the long-standing suffering of cancer patients across the country is expected to be significantly reduced, giving them access to more intensive and higher-quality treatment.

The signed MoU outlines joint cooperation in overall cancer patient management, radiation oncology services, medical physics, quality assurance, research, education, training, and technological development.

At the signing ceremony, it was noted that patients coming from across the country currently face long queues or waiting lists at the National Institute of Cancer Research and Hospital, which often hampers the effectiveness of treatment. To reduce this suffering and ensure faster service delivery, the two reputed institutions have decided to work together.

Following the signing of this MoU, both the National Institute of Cancer Research and Hospital and the Institute of Nuclear Medical Physics will now be equally capable of providing modern and convenient services to cancer patients. This will reduce the sole burden on NICRH and significantly cut down long queues and waiting times at the hospital.

Through this joint initiative, patients will now be able to receive advanced nuclear medicine, accurate diagnosis, and intensive therapeutic care without prolonged delays. Both authorities involved expressed hope that this MoU would bring about a landmark and positive change in the country's overall cancer treatment management.

Dr. Mostafa Aziz Sumon, Director of the National Institute of Cancer Research and Hospital, and Md. Selim Reza, Director of the Institute of Nuclear Medical Physics, signed the memorandum of understanding on behalf of their respective institutions.

The signing ceremony was attended by Minister of Health and Family Welfare Sardar Sakhawat Hossain Bakul MP, Health and Family Welfare Secretary Md. Kamruzzaman Chowdhury, Secretary of the Ministry of Science and Technology Md. Anwar Hossain, Director General of the Directorate General of Health Services Dr. Prabhat Chandra Biswas, and Chairman of the Bangladesh Atomic Energy Commission Dr. Moinul Islam, among other officials.
