The government has introduced major changes to regulations governing cybercrime, data protection, and content removal under the latest amendments passed by the National Parliament in July 2026. It has also formed a five-member Cabinet committee to review and finalize the draft Cyber Security Act, 2026.

Earlier, following the enactment of a separate law to combat online gambling, the provision under Section 20 of the principal law imposing fines of up to Tk 10 million was repealed. The government has now established the committee to examine and finalize the draft Cyber Security (Amendment) Act, 2026.

According to a notification issued by the Cabinet Division on Thursday (July 2), Post, Telecommunications and Information Technology Minister Faqir Mahbub Anam will serve as the committee's convenor. The other members are Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed, Foreign Minister Dr. Khalilur Rahman, Information and Broadcasting Minister Zahir Uddin Swapan, and Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Md. Asaduzzaman.

The committee has been tasked with reviewing the draft Cyber Security (Amendment) Act, 2026, providing necessary recommendations, and assisting in the process of finalizing the legislation.
