Joyful Journey: JUST Welcomes Newcomers
Jashore University of Science and Technology (JUST) hosted the freshman orientation of the Faculty of Engineering and Technology, Faculty of Science, and Faculty of Business Studies on 24 August, Sunday, at the Professor Mohammad Sharif Hossain Gallery in the Kazi Nazrul Islam Academic Building.
The orientation began with readings from sacred religious texts followed by the national anthem. New students were formally welcomed with flowers and educational materials.
On the first day, the orientation was held in two sessions. Four additional faculty orientations are scheduled for 25 August.
Delivering the keynote at the 2024–25 academic year orientation organized by the Student Counseling and Guidance Department, JUST Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Md. Abdul Majid said, “There is no alternative to perseverance in achieving success in life. If you remain diligent, success will come. Hard work, patience, and goal-oriented efforts lead one towards success.”
Addressing the newcomers, the Vice-Chancellor added, “JUST is a politics-free and ragging-free university. Any form of harassment will be met with a zero-tolerance policy. JUST currently holds the top position among the country’s universities in the Times Higher Education ranking. To maintain this position and elevate our global standing, mutual cooperation between teachers and students is essential. You must dream big. To fulfill the dreams the nation has for you, you must be hardworking. Effort and skill will guide you toward success.”
University deans, provosts, the proctor, and department heads provided students with insights into the academic and administrative aspects of JUST. Many freshmen also shared their aspirations regarding campus life and sought the cooperation of the esteemed faculty to ensure a smooth and fulfilling university experience.
Presiding over the orientation, Director of the Student Counseling and Guidance Department Dr. Md. Rafiqul Hasan welcomed distinguished guests including JUST Treasurer Professor Dr. Hossain Al Mamun; Dean of the Faculty of Engineering and Technology Dr. Md. Amzad Hossain; Dean of the Faculty of Science Dr. Md. Qurban Ali; and Dean of the Faculty of Business Studies Dr. Mohammad Kamal Hossain.
Other attendees included Deans Professor Dr. Shirin Nigar, Professor Dr. Md. Zafirul Islam, Provost Dr. Majnuuzzaman, Dr. Naznin Nahar, Dr. Md. Abdur Rauf Sarkar, Dr. Mosa Afroza Khatun, Proctor Dr. Md. Omar Farukh, department heads, department chairpersons, faculty, students, staff, media representatives, and members of various organizations. Members of the university BNCC and Rover Scout units assisted in maintaining order. The program was conducted by Assistant Director Dr. Md. Sabbir Hossain and Md. Shahanur Rahman.
