UGC Pushes Digital Skills for Higher Education
Bangladesh’s University Grants Commission is placing greater emphasis on human resource development, teacher training and digital capacity building to support transformation in higher education.
Bangladesh’s University Grants Commission (UGC) says higher education policy is increasingly shifting from infrastructure-led development toward human resource development and institutional capability building.
As part of that approach, the commission is working in coordination with the ICT Division to expand the use of digital technologies and strengthen professional capacity across universities.
During a visit to a professional development training programme for university teachers at Bangladesh Open University, UGC member Professor Dr Abdullah-Al-Mamun said academic improvement, research support and faculty development remain central priorities in higher education reform.
According to him, the focus is now moving beyond physical infrastructure toward building a skilled academic and administrative workforce capable of improving institutional performance, service quality and accountability.
He added that universities are being encouraged to adopt more technology-enabled approaches to become more efficient and future-ready institutions.
The training programme was organised under the Higher Education Acceleration and Transformation (HEAT) project supported by the World Bank. The initiative continues to support quality enhancement and professional development across the university sector.
Representatives from university administration and project implementation teams also attended the programme.
